This season, we’re heading for the heart of Catalonia. A region full of character, nestled between land and sea, where Catalan artisans have been passing down the art of weaving unique fabrics from generation to generation since the late 19th century.
So emblematic of the entire region, these striped fabrics make their way into our dining rooms, kitchens and outdoor spaces, all around the world.
Truly exceptional craftsmanship that doesn’t go unnoticed and echoes the daily work of our Paraboot artisans, fully committed to preserving age-old expertise.
Les Toiles du Soleil
Nestled at the foot of the Haut-Vallespir slopes, weavers and warpers have been crafting these “sanc i or” (blood and gold) fabrics, representing the colours of Catalonia, for over 150 years.
Movements, tools and machines come together to form a cherished heritage. They are thought to be the only ones in France, if not in Europe, still using traditional looms with Diederichs shuttles to create their weavings.
These rare looms produce a continuous selvedge, ensuring the striped fabrics are strong with a refined finish. They also allow produce high-quality products designed to stand the test of time.
These traditional looms mean that artisans can produce unique fabrics with original designs, using high-quality threads made from plant-based fibres and natural materials, in line with a sustainable development approach.
With a base of 35 colourways, they combine threads in different shades to create an infinite array of patterns and stripes with unparalleled richness of colour.
Michael, now available in a fabric version
On returning from this inspiring journey that immersed us in history, it was only natural to continue with the theme. Catalan fabric is a natural, breathable, lightweight and summery material… So what could be better for reinventing our iconic Michael for the summer ?
In collaboration with Les Toiles du Soleil, the Paraboot teams set to work in our workshops to develop two Michael models for this summer.
For both women and men, the Michael features the “Rue du Bac” fabric, paired with a black rubber sole for a decidedly summery feel. A beautiful story that wraps up just in time for the first sunny days !
Here at Paraboot, we are proud of this collaboration that allows us to play a key role in preserving the craftsmanship and skills associated with our rare trades.
Check out the new Paraboot collection online and in our stores in France and Belgium.
